Lionel Messi wins EIGHTH Ballon d’Or gong after pipping Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe and Bukayo Saka to prestigious award

The superstar pipped Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe to the award after winning the 2022 World Cup.
Lionel Messi has won his eighth Ballon d’Or
Messi’s successes date back to 2009
The Argentine’s World Cup success was a key reason behind his win
Messi, 36, scored seven goals overall—two of which came in the championship—and was a key component of Argentina’s victory.
In addition, he opened the goal in a tight group match against Mexico where a loss may have eliminated Argentina. He also scored a spot-kick in the penalty shootout against France.
Messi led Inter Miami to their first trophy, the Leagues Cup, after leading Paris Saint-Germain to another Ligue 1 victory.
After winning 29 medals thus far in his career, Messi now has 45 individual honors after winning an eighth Ballon d’Or.
Currently, Messi leads Cristiano Ronaldo, who has the second-most wins with five, by three Ballon d’Or crowns.
The Portuguese player’s transfer to Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia prevented him from being nominated this year.
Rather, a number of young players, such as Jamal Musiala of Bayern Munich and Jude Bellingham of England, were chosen.
However, with Haaland in second and Mbappe in third, they were unable to finish in the top three.
Bukayo Saka and Harry Kane, the other English players on the list, came in 24th and 19th place, respectively, with Saka below Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Bellingham, 20, won the Kopa Trophy as the world’s greatest young player, and he is now the highest-ranked Englishman in the Ballon d’Or voting, coming in at number eighteen
