Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt is one of several options Arsenal are currently considering to bolster their midfield options ahead of the remainder of the season

Despite having ended 2021 strongly and started 2022 with a bang, the January transfer window is going to be a defining period in Arsenal's Premier League season.

Prior to the Gunners' recent mini run of revival, which has seen them register three successive league wins for the first time this season, the club is keen to bolster the squad this month and offer Mikel Arteta's attacking options a fresh look.

But in an attempt to change that, Edu, Arsenal's technical director and transfer guru, has admitted that the club are prioritising a move for an attacking-midfielder during this month's transfer window, particularly after failing to get a deal over the line for Lyon ace Houssem Aouar during the summer.

Speaking back in December, Edu, who allowed young central-defender to return to France joining Nice on loan for the remainder of the season, said: "It’s quite clear what we need. We need a player with creativity in the middle, we don’t have that in the squad right now."

Although the window, at the time of writing, is only four days old, the Gunners, who face Brentford  on Saturday evening, are being linked with a whole host of options to bolster their attacking ranks, including Isco, Emiliano Buendia and Borussia Dortmund's Julian Brandt.
