Waste of time’: Tim Sherwood blasts 'overrated' Arsenal player Mikel Arteta continues to start

Tim Sherwood has let rip at Arsenal summer signing Kai Havertz and called the former Chelsea man a ‘complete waste of time’ for Mikel Arteta.

When Chelsea sold Kai Havertz for big bucks, many felt that they got the better deal given how the player was on the decline and really struggling for form.

Given all that noise around him as he walked through Arsenal’s doors, Mikel Arteta still threw him in the deep end hoping for better results and performances in a far better team.

But once again, over the weekend, with captain Martin Odegaard out through injury, it was Kai Havertz who started in the middle of the park.

And Tim Sherwood just can’t understand what he brings to the table as he labelled the Germany international as ‘overrated’, as he told Premier League Productions (06/11/23 at 5:05 pm).

From 17 games in all competitions, the 24-year-old has one goal and one assist, as Tim Sherwood didn’t hold back in criticising the player.

‘Overrated’ Kai Havertz

“Havertz, for me, is a complete waste of time,” said Sherwood. “I just don’t know what he is. I am not sure what he is, at all.

“Is he a ten? A nine? He certainly isn’t an eight. It looks like he runs around. He thinks he is too cool to sweat. I think there are better options.

“If that was a kid making his debut, from what I saw at the weekend, but on a consistent basis if a kid goes in and performs like he performs, you would never see him again. That is an overrated player.”

Things just seem to be getting worse and worse for Havertz. The best way for the player to answer his critics is out on the pitch.

He is unable to do that, in fact, he is just adding fuel to the fire, as he proved at St James’ Park where, according to Ian Wright, he should have been sent off.

There is still time for Havertz to turn things around, but time is running out for a player who was being questioned the minute he walked through the club’s doors.

And with Ian Wright expressing how Arsenal are ‘missing’ Granit Xhaka, it’s been some downgrade that their former captain is no longer at the club and is replaced by a player who probably wouldn’t start for Luton Town right now.
